Why Your Body is Changing (And It’s Totally Normal)
By Allie Theiss, MSc, CSC, ABS

Let’s Talk About the Elephant in the Room: Your Body
You’re standing in front of the mirror, tugging at your waistband, wondering when your midsection became a storage unit for emotional baggage and late-night snacks. Or maybe your boobs feel different, your joints ache, and your libido decided to go on a mysterious sabbatical.
Before you start spiraling—take a deep breath.
Because I promise you this: you’re not falling apart—you’re evolving.
Your body is changing, yes.
But that change is normal, natural, and even (gasp) necessary.
Midlife = Hormonal Plot Twist
Perimenopause and menopause trigger a cascade of hormonal shifts that affect every part of your body.
Some highlights of the hormonal circus include:
Estrogen levels dropping, leading to dry skin, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and weight redistribution (hello, belly pooch).
Progesterone dipping, messing with your sleep, anxiety levels, and emotional regulation.
Testosterone taking a backseat, reducing energy and that sexy, bold, “I still got it” vibe.
Oh, and did I mention your metabolism may slow down, your skin gets thinner, and your pelvic floor might start writing angry letters to your bladder?
Yup. All normal.
It’s Not About “Fixing” It—It’s About Understanding It
Here’s what I need you to hear: This isn’t something to battle—it’s something to honor.
Your body isn’t betraying you.
It’s shifting into a new rhythm. One that requires different care, more intention, and a whole lot of grace.
You’ve done life up until now with a body that served you well. Now, it’s asking for a different kind of partnership.
So instead of fighting it—what if you learned to listen?
How to Start Reconnecting with Your Body
Here are a few ways to start shifting the narrative and reconnect with the body you’re in right now:
✅ 1. Practice Body Curiosity Instead of Judgment
Instead of asking, “Why do I look like this?”
Try, “What is my body trying to tell me?”
Notice how it feels when you eat certain foods, wear certain clothes, or take time for yourself.
✅ 2. Move in Ways That Feel Good (Not Punishing)
Gone are the days of punishing workouts.
Think: gentle yoga, dancing in your kitchen, long walks, or even sex (yes, that counts).
✅ 3. Wear Clothes That Celebrate Your Shape—Not Hide It
If you’ve been stuffing yourself into pre-menopause jeans or hiding in oversized everything, it’s time to let that go.
Your body deserves comfort, confidence, and clothes that make you feel like the hot midlife goddess you are.
✅ 4. Talk About It (Seriously—Say the Words Out Loud)
There’s power in naming what’s happening.
Talk to a friend, partner, coach, or journal. The more you normalize your changes, the less power shame has over them.
Here’s the Sexy Truth
You don’t need to get your “old body” back.
You need to build a relationship with the one you have now.
Because when you accept your changing body with love instead of resentment?
That’s when pleasure deepens. Intimacy grows. Confidence returns.
You are still sexy. Still desirable. Still worthy of being seen and touched and celebrated.
Exactly as you are.
